Tyson Fury’s first remarks since his talks with Oleksandr Usyk died were high on invective and low on substance.
In an Instagram story posted on Thursday, WBC titlist Fury is seen hurling a stream of insults at the WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO champion, calling him a “coward,” belittling his looks, and suggesting that the Ukrainian will now have to be content with making a “couple o’ bucks” against his mandatory challenger, Daniel Dubois.
Usyk-Fury is the latest major fight in boxing to go belly-up, following in the shadow of last year’s failed negotiations between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. for the undisputed welterweight championship.
After months of heated negotiations, it was reported yesterday that organizers for the undisputed heavyweight championship decided to go their separate ways, extinguishing any hope of seeing the fight materialize on the target date of April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London.
A deal for a fight appeared imminent after Usyk had accepted Fury’s ultimatum of a 70/30 split. But then further disagreement emerged concerning the split in a potential rematch (on UK soil only), which the loser would have a right to invoke. According to Mike Coppinger of ESPN, Usyk wanted a 70/30 split, in his favor, in the rematch, while Fury requested a 50/50 split.
Usyk, who apparently has left his training camp, may now turn his attention to fulfilling a mandatory request, possibly involving Daniel Dubois, the British heavyweight who is promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, which also backs Fury. Heavyweight Joe Joyce, another top contender for one of Usyk’s belts, could be another option.
“Usyk, you little sh!thouse,” Fury said. “You proper little sh!thouse. You bug-eyed, buck-toothed, ugly little rat bastard. You little slimy f—er. Tried all week to get out of it, begging for a rematch like a little girl. You got your rematch then, and you didn’t even want to fight with that.
“You little sh!thouse, p—y. Always know, p—y, that you are never man enough to tangle with the Gypsy King ever in your life, you little sh!thouse. You little fourteen-stone coward. You little sh!thouse. You rat little bastard. And your full team know it as well.
“And all the lawyers have full information. You little ugly bastard. Keep running. Fight [Daniel] Dubois now for a couple o’ bucks, sh!tbag, and always know that you are anybody else like you could never tangle with the Gypsy King, you sh!thouse little coward.”
Alexander Krassyuk, the promoter of Usyk, informed talkSPORT on Wednesday that there was no point in continuing discussions so long as Fury continued to come up with a list of unreasonable demands.
