AMSTERDAM — An existing auto shop on Lyon Street will be transformed into office space with an industrial flair after plans were approved by the Amsterdam Planning Commission this past Wednesday.
Chad Majewski bought the property at 59 Lyon St. earlier this month for $100,000 with plans to convert the existing two-bay garage into an office to house his growing real estate business.
The dated garage, last operated as Mo’s Auto Repair, is highly visible on a corner lot across the street from the Lyon Street Bar and Grill, which opened recently in the rehabbed former Crystal Bar.
Majewski plans to refresh the simple brick building with modern black and white color patterns playing up its industrial aesthetic.
“There will be no structural changes to the building, mostly cosmetic changes,” Majewski said.
The main entrance, garage doors and windows will be replaced to improve energy efficiency while upgrading the overall appearance of the site.
Mechanic space will be transformed into an open concept office for use by the nine existing staff members featuring desks, a conference area and a coffee bar.
Existing customer space within the garage will be converted into a reception area. A corner office will be reused for file storage.
New LED lighting is planned for interior installation. Plans show new planter boxes along the exterior of the building.
Proposed updates to the existing building were welcomed by the Planning Commission.
“It’s going to be a huge enhancement to the area, everyone passes it,” board member Sandy Griffin said.
The city’s Rockton neighborhood has been rapidly revitalized with several buildings around the garage site undergoing extensive renovations, bringing in flourishing new businesses.
“There’s kind of a rebirth going on over there, so I’m glad to be part of it and see what happens,” Majewski said.
Chad Majewski Real Estate is targeted a June opening at 59 Lyon St.
