Nintendo hasn’t credited Grant Kirkhope for the DK Rap in Super Mario Bros Movie
The excellent video game composer and all round nice guy, Grant Kirkhope, was dealt a bitter blow yesterday after learning that he hasn’t been credited by Nintendo and Illumination for the DK Rap which appears in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is out today. It is not clear why Nintendo didn’t credit him for writing and composing it. Hopefully that will change with the retail release of the Super Mario Bros Movie.
I was really looking forward to see my name in the credits for the DK Rap, but alas as expected it’s not there …….. fml

Not acknowledging the composer is pretty lame, they don’t give credit when credits due. That’s a real low blow.
Didn’t he say years ago that he felt ashamed of that song?
Yes, he did. He said “I apologise for subjecting you to that bloody awful rap”. I don’t know why he wants to be recognized after saying that.
I only remember the tweet from last year, where he apologized for it. But it didn’t seem like he was ashamed, he said itore jokingly.
They really need to do better. People seem to go uncredited for their work with Nintendo too often that we’ve heard about.
I can’t ever say that I was swayed to watch a film based on what a Critic had to say And I mean any kind of critic, from these kind of sites, to YouTubers.. so that holds no weight with me at all. it’s funny to me how the entertainment industry treats aside like rotten tomatoes anyway. when it’s a great review they spread it all over the place, but when it’s a bad review, It’s like the site doesn’t matter to them. very selective.
Furthermore, as people have mentioned this is a movie for the fans of the games and fans of video games. I don’t expect the same people that supposedly review all these Prestige Oscar contenders, to get what this movie is about or who it’s for. it’s just not their wheelhouse. Of course I have my own issues with the film, from what I’ve heard and what I’ve seen but I’m still going to watch it.
Oops i wrote this out and then pasted it under the wrong article. My bad,
Did you really just spoil this? I would’ve preferred to be surprised in the movie.
