On Monday, House Freedom Caucus member Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) beat out RINO Dan Crenshaw to be named the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in the new Republican Congress. Green has promised that he will keep a permanent staff at the border, taking a much-needed hardline approach to the migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Homeland Security Committee is charged with overseeing border security and cybersecurity. It was previously chaired by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.).
Green, a former Army Raner Infantry Officer, was chosen to chair the panel by the House Republican Steering Committee. After securing his position, he vowed to hire at least one staff member to be permanently stationed at the border so they can work directly with Customs and Border patrol, along with other groups dealing with immigration control.
After being appointed head of the committee, Green told Fox News, “For the sake of our national security and homeland security, we must secure our border. We have no choice. We will empower our brave GOP agents to do their jobs and hold President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the crisis that they created.”
The Tennessee Rep. also tweeted a message thanking his supporters after beating out Crenshaw, saying, “I want to thank each and every person for their supportive phone calls, texts, and encouraging messages and comments. We have hit the ground running and will not let you down.”

He also thanked Speaker McCarthy, saying, “I’m grateful to [McCarthy] and the House Republican Steering Committee for entrusting me with this task; it’s time to get to work and fulfill our Commitment to America!”

Green was a die-hard supporter of new House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from the beginning, as was his opponent for the committee chair, Rep. Crenshaw, who went as far as to call the 20 Republican lawmakers who opposed McCarthy as Speaker of the House “terrorists.”
