The fourth installment of the Bad Boys franchise has been confirmed.
As Sony Pictures confirmed in their statement to Variety, ‘Bad Boys’ stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are coming back together to make the much-anticipated action-packed movie a reality.
The production company also revealed that the movie is currently in its pre-production stage and that Chris Bremner’s script will be directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi.
The aforementioned directors previously also helmed the franchise’s third installment, Bad Boys For Life, which earned over $426 million at the worldwide box office.
Confirming the good news were also the stars of the movie who shared a video in which they proudly announced that “IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME” for the fourth movie to happen.
“Yo, I’ve got an announcement. Y’all better stop scrolling,” Smith said as he recorded himself driving towards Lawrence’s home.
“I wish I was you, not knowing what I’m about to show me,” he added as he played Bad Boys II soundtrack Shake Ya Tailfeather in the background.
After Smith arrived at Lawrence’s home, the latter opened the door and yelled: “It’s about that time!”
The pair then embraced each other before repeatedly reassuring the fans that Bad Boys 4 has been officially confirmed.
The news comes a year after Will Smith notoriously stormed the Academy Awards stage and slapped Oscars host Chris Rock in the face over a joke about Jada Pinkett’s alopecia.
Following the on-stage assault, Smith repeatedly apologized to the public and his wife and eventually also attempted to reconcile with the comedian he had slapped.
“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk when he is, he will reach out. So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk,” the actor said.
“I just didn’t realize how many people got hurt in that moment, so I want to apologize to Chris’s mother. I want to apologize. I want to apologize to Tony Rock. Tony Rock was my man and this is probably irreparable.”
He added: “I spent the last three months replaying and understanding the nuances and the complexities of what happened in that moment.
“I’m not going to try to unpack all of that right now but I can say to all of you, there is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment. There is no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”
