On July 4th, Angel Studios’ “Sound of Freedom,” starring Jim Caviezel hit theaters and took the number one spot in sales.
Caviezel portrays former federal agent Tim Ballard, who quits his job to save children from human sex trafficking.
The film beat Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” even though it played in 2,000 more theater locations than “Sound of Freedom.”
“Sound of Freedom” grossed over $14 million on opening day, generating back much of the initial budget.
“Thanks to fans around the country, ‘Sound of Freedom’ earned the top spot as America’s number one movie on Independence Day. We’ve received numerous messages telling us theaters are either packed or sold out. This movie has now taken on a life of its own to become something more than that, a grassroots movement,” Angel Studios’ CEO Neal Harmon said in a press release.
Caviezel spoke with ChurchPOP before the film hit theaters. He discussed many topics, including his acting career.
Caviezel stressed that he dedicated his life to loving God and will “give him whatever I’ve got.”
He said God came to him in a movie theater and told him to become an actor.
“God loves us I understand, but we need to start loving God back. He needs to be loved. Jesus deserves to be loved.
“I want to love Him and I’ll give him whatever I’ve got. It’s not my career. It’s God’s career,” Caviezel told ChurchPOP.
“I was a simple guy when God came to me in a movie theater, and I said, ‘Well I can’t do this…'”
“But I said, ‘Well Lord, I asked you what my purpose is. You said, ‘Hey I’d like you to be an actor. Well, I’m going to take you at your word. So I’m going to go and try.'”
“Do you think people didn’t call me out and say I was nuts? They’re probably watching this interview right now and saying I’m nuts!”
“Sound of Freedom” is now playing in theaters.
