Rick Harrison, the lead in the hit reality show “Pawn Stars,” blamed his 39-year-old son’s overdose death on the crisis along the southern border. “Yes, I can confirm Adam died from a fentanyl overdose,” the 58-year-old businessman told the New York Post in a Monday statement. As TMZ reported earlier Monday, “the Harrison family found out on Friday that Adam died from a fatal overdose.” “The fentanyl crisis in this country must be taken more seriously,” Harrison told the Post. “It seems it is just flowing over the borders and nothing is being done about it. We must do better.” Fentanyl seizures by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are up 860 percent since 2019, according to ABC News. Last week, House Republicans convened their second impeachment hearing for Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his failures related to the border. Josephine Dunn, whose daughter died from fentanyl poisoning, was a featured witness at the hearing and similarly blamed the administration’s open-border policies for the family tragedy. “In my humble opinion, Mr. Mayorkas’ border policy is partially responsible for my daughter’s death,” Dunn said. On Monday, the Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration on a contentious Texas case wherein state officials objected to the federal government’s efforts to cut through razor wire along the border. In a 5-4 decision, the court ruled the federal government was empowered to rip through the state-installed barrier along the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass. Justices Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Brett Kavanaugh made up the minority who would have barred the administration from removing the border barriers. December set a new record for the number of migrant encounters in a single month, with more than 300,000 reported. According to the House Homeland Security Committee, on Biden’s watch, there have been at least 1.7 million known “gotaways” who have dodged Border Patrol and gotten into the country, with even more coming in undetected. In fiscal year 2023, 169 individuals caught trying to cross illegally were on the terrorist watchlist. Texas Rep. Michael McCaul, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee, said he believes Mayorkas will be impeached after the end of this month. “The founding fathers talked about breach of public trust was sufficient for impeachment, and we intend to go forward,” McCaul said. “Chairman Mark Green is doing a great job. We’re working together. Articles of impeachment [on] January 31st, and we will impeach him after that.”
