In 2022, Choctaw Casinos & Resorts broke ground on Choctaw Landing, an entertainment resort in Hochatown, and visitors can expect the new resort to open in 2024.
The 100-room resort will offer 600 slot machines, eight table games and several restaurants and bars, bringing a whole new gaming aspect to the popular southeast Oklahoma resort area.
Choctaw Landing’s resort will come complete with meeting rooms, a restaurant, a pool, and 10 cabanas. It will include an outdoor recreation venue with an amphitheater, beer garden and additional food offerings, as well as a mercantile with groceries, a deli, and a Starbucks is attached to the resort. A large 24- pump fuel island will also be available.
The new property compliments the 2021 $600 million investment the Nation made to expand its Durant showcase property. The new 21-story Spa Tower in Durant includes 3,300 slots, 38 table games and a poker room.
According to Choctaw Landing executives, construction is moving along smoothly.
“We worked with JCJ Architecture out of Tulsa on a building design that kept the rich Choctaw culture and the natural beauty of the area in mind when designing Choctaw Landing,” said Amy Davis, general manager at Choctaw Landing.
The landscaping will reflect the importance of nature, and diamonds have been incorporated into the designs to reflect the importance the rattlesnake has on the Choctaw culture. Colors throughout the resort will complement the nature surrounding Hochatown.
“The facility is designed to encourage the gathering of families and groups,” Davis said. “We want our guests to experience the Choctaw culture, arts and the outdoor beauty that Hochatown has to offer.”
The opening of the $238 million Choctaw Landing resort will create more than 400 jobs in southeast Oklahoma, and the destination resort will create an annual economic impact of $95 million for the region.
Additionally, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma broke ground and is building an apartment complex in Broken Bow with 200 units open to tribal members and Choctaw Nation employees.
“We have long considered Hochatown as the perfect location for a resort,” said Davis. “It’s the site of a historical Choctaw village and the heart of Choctaw Country. Hochatown is known as a great location for outdoor adventure, relaxation and beauty. Choctaw Landing will reflect the natural beauty of the area and provide a great escape for guests.”
The choice to locate in the growing Hochatown area was a smart one. Hochatown has soared in recent years as a favorite destination spot for Oklahomans and citizens from neighboring states, boasting of Hochatown has exploded in recent years as a favorite destination spot for Oklahomans and citizens from neighboring states.
Hochatown and the nearby areas around Broken Bow Lake in McCurtain County topped Vrbo’s list of drivable U.S. Destinations for 2021, and the Beaver’s Bend State Park drew in visitors who spent 848,520 days there and spent a total of $71.6 million during their stay.
Tulsa-based Manhattan Construction kicked off the Choctaw Landing build in September 2022. The resort, located at the intersection of 259 and 259A-North, is scheduled to open next spring. All site work is near completion, and the building framing and roofing are complete. The pool is currently under construction, and the interior finishes are going up.
“We are focused on ensuring our resort guests have a positive experience every time they visit one of our casinos and resorts,” said Davis. “We are always looking for opportunities that improve our existing properties, benefit southeast Oklahoma and the Choctaw Nation.”
