Two of the top girl groups right now have to be IVE and NewJeans. While the groups couldn’t be more different, they’re both two of the biggest acts in both Korea and internationally when it comes to the newest generation of idols.
Yet, controversy has arisen after netizens accused a general manager from IVE’s company Starship Entertainment of leaving ambiguous comments under NewJeans members’ recent editorial shots.
NewJeans Minji and Danielle have gained attention after their unreal photos for publications Vogue Korea and W Korea. Unsurprisingly, the photos were beautiful and showcased the idols’ versatility and ability to rock every concept they’re given.
Yet, the photos have caused a stir online after a general manager at Starship Entertainment has been accused of leaving ambiguous and almost “shady” comments under the photos.
The user in question, with the username @dreamjmj, has the words “ads” and “pictorials” on her profile page, which had netizens assuming that she wasn’t just a staff at Starship Entertainment but some sort of general manager in a higher-up department.
There was also a magazine clipping shared on the Korean forum that was a credit for a photoshoot done with MONSTA X‘s Shownu. In the clipping, the editorial praised her for her hard work in coordinating with the editors but mentioned her role as a general manager.
In the photos of Minji and Danielle, the general manager commented “hmm” and “hmm hmm” which were very ambiguous but seemed to have connotations of indifference.
Yet, in another post on Instagram regarding IVE, the manager was more praising and wrote, “You’re doing great, you’re doing great at everything. our Rei is doing the bestest.”
While the comments themselves weren’t negative, the contrast in comments between those on NewJeans’ posts and IVE’s unsurprisingly caused trouble and became a hot topic online.
