Johnny Depp made his return to filmmaking — not Hollywood, but filmmaking — at Cannes this week. It was the premier of “Jeanne du Barry,” his first movie since his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Turd. Turd accused Depp of abuse. He got canceled from Hollywood because of it. Turns out, Turd was the abuser and she now owes Depp lots and lots of money.
Depp’s return with “Jeanne du Barry,” about the last official mistress of King Louis XV, saw him get emotional as he was given a seven-minute standing ovation.

After, it was time to meet the press. While there were some questions about the movie, a lot more were about how Depp was “doing.” A nice way to ask “so, about that defamation thing…”
When asked about being canceled by Hollywood, Depp put that in the past. Along with Hollywood. “I don’t feel boycotted because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t feel much further need for Hollywood.”
Johnny Depp: “Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood?…When you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a function of vowels and consonants floating in the air, yes you feel boycotted.” https://t.co/VIiTdGy6dP #Cannes pic.twitter.com/Xjz2IfinDu

It’s a very strange, funny time where everyone would love to be able to be themselves. But they can’t. Because they must ‘fall in line’ with the person in front of them. You wanna live that kind of life, I wish you the best. But I’ll be on the other side.
He would prefer it if the press, for a change, focused on his movies and not the “fantastically, horrifically written fiction” that has been written about him.
“I mean it’s boring, isn’t it? Aren’t you guys sick of it by now? It’s weird”
Johnny Depp reminds the media that the focus should be on the film, not his life, of which he calls the reporting of as, “fantastically, horrifically written fiction”

I’d like to see a Depp comeback, even though he doesn’t call it a comeback. There was a point in the 90s when he was my favorite actor: Edward Scissorhands, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Don Juan DeMarco, and while the episodes don’t hold up these days, 21 Jump Street was must watch as a teenager.
